Kublai Khan

Kublai Khan was the first emperor of the Yuan (mongol) dynasty. He was the grandson of the infamous marauder Ghengis Khan. Kublai was born in Mongolia in 1215 and began his reign in 1260 when he conquered the Song dynasty in China. he accomplished many feats. He introduced paper currency and created a new alphabet in the Mongol language. Kublai established a magnificent court in Cambaluc witch is in present day Beijing but he only allowed fellow Mongols to have high ranking positions in the government. Kublai demanded loyalty and gifts form all of the states he controlled,if is demands were not met his armies would attack the empire. States like Korea cooperated with Kublai but Japan however did not. In 1274 Kublai invaded Japan. His plan backfired and his armies were destroyed. he tried this again in 1281 and he was once again beaten back by the Japanese. Kublai died in Ta-tu in 1294. His achievements rank him second behind his grandfather Ghengis among Mongol rulers.

Kublai Khan was a very important cog in medieval China. Kublai founded the Yuan dynasty and the first non-Chinese emperor to control ALL of China. He introduced paper currency which is now one of the main forms of currency in the world today. Kublai is also responsable for re-creating a unified military in China .Kublai was also known for giving his people religious freedom. All in all Kublai was a great emperor and helped China politically and physically.
