Prince Shotoku was born in AD 574. His name was changed to Shotoku Taishi, He was the second son of emperor Yomei. Prince Shotoku was a member of the Imperial Clan from the end of the 6th century to beginning of the 7th century. He was very smart and he read a lot an at early age. Shotoku created a Constitution for Japan. It was called the Seventeen Article Constitution. It was the first Japanese constitution. He was Buddhist. He was thought of as the father of Japanese Buddhism because he started Buddhism in Japan. He was born at a time when Japan was made up of warring clans. He opened relations between China and Japan. He worked at unifying his country and bringing peace through Buddhist practices. Shotoku died in 622.
